Isak's Early Double Secures Iraola's First Win for Liverpool
Liverpool needed just nine breathless minutes in Ipswich to rip the game away from the hosts and hand Andoni Iraola his first Premier League victory in charge.
Alexander Isak did the damage. Twice.
Two ruthless finishes from the forward put Liverpool 2–0 up almost before Ipswich had settled, and that was enough to seal three points and a first clean sheet of the season.
Isak at the double, Gakpo pulls the strings
The visitors came out flying and Ipswich never recovered from the opening storm.
Isak struck first, latching onto a clever pass from Cody Gakpo and finishing clinically to silence the home crowd. Liverpool sensed weakness and went straight back for more.
Moments later, the same combination cut Ipswich open again. Gakpo slipped Isak through once more, and the forward made no mistake, doubling the lead and tightening Liverpool’s grip on the match before the clock had even reached ten minutes.
Two goals, two assists, same partnership. Gakpo’s influence was impossible to ignore, all in a week when Manchester City lodged a transfer offer for the Dutchman. Liverpool, though, were in no mood to be distracted. They protected their lead with a controlled, professional display, rarely allowing Ipswich a clear route back into the contest.
Clean sheet and lift in the table
After chaotic 2–2 draws with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, Iraola finally saw his side close out a game without conceding. The defensive resolve matched the early attacking edge, giving Liverpool their first shutout of the campaign.
The result moves Liverpool up to fifth in the Premier League table, with five points from their opening three matches. It also removes the small but growing question mark over Iraola’s start, after those back-to-back draws had stalled early momentum.
Ipswich, who came into the game with three points from their first two fixtures, stay on that tally and slip into 13th place. They battled to keep the scoreline respectable after the early shock but never found a way to seriously test Liverpool’s new-found composure at the back.
There was at least one bright note for the visitors: Bradley Barcola made his debut after coming off the bench, a first glimpse of a player expected to add depth and spark as the season wears on.
For now, though, this night belonged to Isak, Gakpo and a Liverpool side that finally looked like Iraola’s vision in fast-forward. If they can bottle those first nine minutes, what does that mean for the rest of the campaign?
