Iraola Emerges as Liverpool's Top Managerial Candidate

Liverpool’s title defence has sagged, and with it the certainty around Arne Slot’s future. Into that uncertainty has stepped a familiar Premier League face: Andoni Iraola.

The Bournemouth head coach, who will leave the south coast club at the end of the season after guiding them to European qualification for the first time in their history, has surged to the front of the betting to become the next Liverpool manager if Slot goes.

William Hill now make Iraola the clear favourite at 4/7. Behind him, the market stretches out: Sebastian Hoeness at 6/1, Luis Enrique also 6/1, Julian Nagelsmann 13/2 and, in a twist that would shake Anfield to its core, Jurgen Klopp at 9/1.

Reports from FootMercato describe Iraola as Liverpool’s first choice to replace Slot should the club decide on a change. His aggressive, front-foot football has caught the eye at Anfield, with the Spaniard said to “tick all the boxes” for a hierarchy that has grown used to high-tempo, attacking football.

For now, Slot remains in charge. But the conversation around his position has grown louder in recent weeks, fuelled by the “disappointing” nature of Liverpool’s attempt to defend their crown. The sense is clear: if Liverpool move, they know exactly where they want to turn.

Guardiola Era Ending, Carrick Era Beginning

The managerial landscape around Liverpool is shifting fast.

Within the last half hour, Manchester City confirmed that Pep Guardiola will leave at the end of the season. The man who has defined an era in English football is heading for the exit, with former Chelsea and Leicester boss Enzo Maresca expected to step in.

Up the road, Manchester United have gone in the opposite direction: from interim to permanent. Michael Carrick, having impressed during his caretaker spell, has been handed the job full-time. Two of Liverpool’s fiercest rivals are resetting their long-term plans. Liverpool may yet join them.

Ngumoha Catches Tuchel’s Eye

While the senior dugouts shift, one Liverpool teenager has earned a rare opportunity on the international stage.

Rio Ngumoha, 17, will join Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for their World Cup training camp in Florida. He has not made the final 26-man list for the tournament, but Tuchel has confirmed the Liverpool youngster will be part of the group preparing in the United States.

Ngumoha has impressed in his Liverpool outings this season. This call-up, even as a training player, is a clear marker of how highly he is rated and a possible step towards full England contention over the coming years.

That rising status is already shaping Liverpool’s transfer thinking. L’Equipe report that the club could cool their interest in PSG winger Bradley Barcola, with concern that a big-money arrival in Ngumoha’s position would block the teenager’s pathway. PSG are thought to be open to a sale at the right price, but Liverpool may now prefer to back their own.

Transfer Battles With Bournemouth

Liverpool’s scouting department keeps circling Bournemouth. The Cherries’ rise under Iraola has not gone unnoticed, and neither have their standout players.

In Brazil, O Dia report that Liverpool are among the clubs tracking Bournemouth’s Brazilian star Rayan. They are not alone, but any move faces a hard stop at the south coast. Bournemouth are described as having “no interest” in negotiating this window. ESPN Brazil back that up, stating there are “no plans” to sell him this summer unless an “absurd” offer lands on the table.

Another Bournemouth talent, Eli Junior Kroupi, has also moved onto Liverpool’s radar. The 19-year-old Frenchman has caught attention across the Premier League, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa all linked. Sportsboom claim Liverpool are ready to “step up” their pursuit and believe they can get to the front of the queue.

The problem is the price. Bournemouth are expected to demand around £100m. For a teenager, for a club that has already shown it will not be bullied in the market, that is a serious barrier.

Bowen, Survival and a Sliding Door Weekend

Away from Bournemouth, Liverpool’s recruitment team are watching events in east London with interest.

Jarrod Bowen remains firmly on their list, according to the latest reports, with The Guardian previously stating that Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are all in the race for the West Ham United captain.

Everything may hinge on this weekend. West Ham face a final-day scrap for survival against Tottenham Hotspur. If the Hammers go down, prising Bowen away becomes a far more realistic prospect. If they stay up, West Ham’s bargaining power hardens, and the deal becomes far more complex.

Tuchel’s England Call and Liverpool’s Absentees

Tuchel has now named his 26-man England squad for the World Cup. None of Liverpool’s current players have made the cut, but the club’s fingerprints are still on the list.

Former Reds Jarell Quansah and Jordan Henderson are both included. Another ex-Liverpool man, Trent Alexander-Arnold, has missed out entirely, a striking omission for a player once seen as central to England’s future.

Ngumoha, meanwhile, will watch the tournament from the outside but train on the inside. For a 17-year-old, that might be the perfect place to start.

Slot Speaks, Uncertainty Lingers

On the pitch, Arne Slot is still tasked with finishing the season on a high. Ahead of Sunday’s game against Brentford, the Liverpool manager faced questions on Mohamed Salah, the latest injury situation and Alisson’s future.

He answered them, as managers do. Yet the noise around him is no longer just about Brentford, or injuries, or Salah. It is about Iraola, odds boards, and a club that has already lived through one seismic dugout change in the past year.

Liverpool insist they are planning for stability. The market, and the managers around them, are planning for change. How long can those two realities coexist?
