Inter Cash in on Matteo Motta but Face Rejection for Luca Reggiani

Inter have moved on one of their own and immediately turned their attention to another Italian prospect – only to find the door in Germany firmly closed.

The Nerazzurri have officially sold Matteo Motta to Pescara, striking a deal that sends the 21-year-old left-back to the Serie C club after his loan spell at Lumezzane. Motta, a product of Inter’s youth academy who never made a competitive appearance for the senior side, leaves Milan with a clause that keeps the club financially tied to his future: Inter have retained 50 per cent of any future sell-on fee.

It is a classic piece of squad management – trimming a player who has not broken through, while keeping a stake in his potential rise elsewhere.

At the same time, Inter have looked abroad for defensive reinforcements and circled back to a familiar name.

According to Bild in Germany, the Italian giants have again asked Borussia Dortmund about the availability of Luca Reggiani, the highly rated 18-year-old central defender.

Reggiani, who came through the Sassuolo youth academy, joined Borussia Dortmund in February 2024 and has accelerated rapidly since crossing the Alps. His development in the Bundesliga has been sharp enough to earn him a senior Italy cap at just 18, making his Azzurri debut in June 2026.

That kind of trajectory naturally attracts attention in Serie A, and Inter have tried to test Dortmund’s resolve. The response, though, is clear.

The German club are determined to keep hold of Reggiani and, as reported, have little interest in opening the door to negotiations, having only recently extended his contract.

Inter may have freed up space and secured a future percentage on Motta, but when it comes to Reggiani, they are staring at a brick wall – at least for now.
