Ilyas Ansah's Premier League Dream Move from Union Berlin
Ilyas Ansah has traded the red of Union Berlin for the bright lights of the Premier League – and he is in no doubt about the scale of the step he is taking.
The 21-year-old forward, who featured in all but one of Union Berlin’s matches last season, arrives in England on the back of a breakout campaign. Five goals, three assists, and a growing reputation as one of the Bundesliga’s most adaptable young attackers have carried him to what he openly calls a dream move.
“It’s a dream come true for me to play in the Premier League, and for such a big club – it’s really an honour for me,” he told his new employers, still sounding like someone pinching himself.
He knows the stories already. The club, the dressing room, the expectations.
“I have heard a lot about the club, the players and the team, and I’m excited to play with the boys and to get to know them,” he said.
For Ansah, this is not the first dream he has ticked off.
“It was an honour and a dream playing in the Bundesliga. Now, I have another dream to play in the Premier League, and I’m going to work hard for it.”
That work will be done all across the front line. Ansah built his reputation in Germany not as a fixed-point No 9, but as a forward who can stretch and bend a system to suit his movement.
“I’m a very flexible player. I can play almost anywhere up front – on the left side, on the right side, maybe as a 10,” he explained. “I’m definitely a player who always gives his best and leaves it all on the pitch.”
His game is built on directness. He wants the ball, he wants his defender one-on-one, and he wants the goal in sight.
“Taking my man on, beating players, shooting on target and scoring goals – that’s my main goal I want to reach at this club.”
On the international stage, Ansah has already worn Germany colours at under-20 and under-21 level, a sign of how highly he is regarded in a fiercely competitive talent pool.
He now drops into a team that has started fast: two wins from two league games, momentum already building. The timing could hardly be sharper.
“It’s been a really exciting start to the season – two wins out of two games,” he said. “Now, it’s time for me to get into the team and be a part of what they are already achieving.”
