Harry Kane Breaks Bundesliga Record with 101 Goals
Harry Kane didn’t just break a record. He ripped it up.
The England captain hit his 100th and 101st Bundesliga goals as Bayern Munich crushed Union Berlin 7-0, becoming the fastest player in history to reach the century in Germany’s top flight. He needed just 98 league games. A 49-year-old mark, gone in under two seasons.
Back in 1977, Cologne striker Dieter Müller set the standard, taking 129 matches to get to 100. That figure has loomed over German goalscorers for decades. Kane treated it like a target, not a ceiling.
Since walking into Bavaria in 2023, he has been scoring at a rate that barely seems real: a Bundesliga goal every 78.5 minutes. Across all competitions for Bayern, the numbers are just as stark – 152 goals in 154 appearances, with 61 in 51 games last season alone. This is not a purple patch. It’s a sustained onslaught.
The record fell in the 39th minute. Bayern already had Union pinned back when Kane stepped up to the spot, the expectation almost heavier than the ball. He thumped the penalty home, clinical and cold, and with it rewrote the league’s history books.
Any sense of ceremony ended there. Early in the second half, he rose to meet a Michael Olise cross and nodded in his second of the afternoon, a simple finish that carried a brutal message. Bayern were not easing off. The goal helped send them top of the table ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.
The night belonged to Kane’s milestone, but he was not the only Bayern forward in full flow. Olise produced his first hat-trick for the club, a performance of sharp movement and ruthless finishing that would usually dominate the headlines. Jamal Musiala added a stunning strike of his own, the kind of goal that normally decides tight contests rather than embellishes a rout.
Kane, though, sounded almost taken aback by how quickly it has all come together.
“I’m very proud to have now scored 100 and 101 Bundesliga goals. I haven’t been around that long. I’ve loved every second of it,” he told Sky Germany, the emotion clear behind the matter-of-fact numbers.
With attacking talent like Olise, Luis Díaz and Musiala buzzing around him, chances arrive with relentless regularity. “With Michael, Lucho [Luis Díaz] and Jamal I naturally get chances and today was no exception,” he said, quick to shift the spotlight.
“So I just want to thank the team, the club, the coach, and the staff – everyone who has helped me achieve this. Let’s keep going like this. Scoring more goals in games is obviously a big step. Of course, there have been many important goals among them. I can only say that I’m enjoying every minute of it. Just like today.”
A century of league goals in 98 games. A 7-0 win. Bayern back on top. If this is Kane still “not around that long”, the rest of the Bundesliga knows exactly what’s coming next.
