Harry Kane's Future: Bayern Munich Set to Extend Contract
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Harry Kane dream is about to hit a wall.
Manchester United’s ambitious co-owner has long admired the England captain and, according to insiders, would jump at the chance to bring him to Old Trafford. With Kane’s Bayern Munich contract running out at the end of the season, the timing looked perfect. On paper, at least.
Back on August 10, transfer insider Graeme Bailey revealed that United were among the clubs circling, ready to pounce if the door opened. United, it’s understood, are prepared to explore a deal for the former Tottenham Hotspur talisman. Ratcliffe sees Kane as exactly what he is: one of the finest strikers on the planet, a guaranteed source of goals and leadership for a side still trying to rediscover its identity.
But the door is closing. Fast.
Bayern move to lock Kane down
From Germany, the mood around Kane is very different to the hopeful whispers in Manchester. Bayern, fully aware of the value of their No. 9, are already preparing a new three-year contract for the 33-year-old. They don’t intend to let the face of their attack walk away.
Bailey’s original report carried one crucial line: Kane wants to stay at Bayern. That stance is now being backed up by growing noise in the German media, who say clarity on his future is imminent.
Bild journalist Christian Falk, speaking on his CFBayernInsider platform, lifted the curtain on the situation after Kane was named “football star of the year” at the Sport Bild Awards. Kane joined the ceremony via Zoom, while his father Pat represented him in person at the Fischauktionshalle in Hamburg.
Falk spoke with Bayern president Herbert Hainer on the night and came away with a clear message: calm.
Everyone around the club, Falk reported, is telling people to “relax”. Inside Bayern, the feeling is that a new deal is only a matter of time. There are still details to iron out, a few questions to settle in the talks, but the confidence is high that both sides will reach an agreement.
United left watching from afar
The timeline is just as significant as the tone. Falk expects a contract announcement next month, stressing that it will come “absolutely this year, not next year”. He is “really sure” Kane will sign an extension that runs beyond 2026.
If that happens, Kane effectively disappears from the market for a long spell. Any lingering hope at Old Trafford of finally landing the striker they have coveted for years would evaporate with one signature.
And Falk didn’t shy away from spelling that out, signing off with a pointed apology to Kane’s long-standing admirers at Manchester United.
For Ratcliffe and United, the message from Munich is brutal in its simplicity: Harry Kane isn’t coming.
