Barcelona Midfielder Gavi Rejects Manchester United Transfer Bid
Barcelona midfielder Gavi has declined a transfer offer from Manchester United, forcing the English club to reconsider their options this summer. Manager Michael Carrick had targeted the young Spaniard to strengthen his midfield, but Gavi remains committed to his current club and is set for contract talks at Camp Nou.
Manchester United Faces Midfield Setback
The Mirror reports that despite a £35 million bid being on the table, Gavi showed no interest in moving to the Premier League. This comes as a blow to United, who have already invested around £85 million on midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this transfer window. The club now needs to identify another target before the window closes.
Gavi’s Loyalty to Barcelona
Gavi has been with Barcelona since he was 11 years old and has made 119 league appearances since debuting in 2021. Recently part of Spain's World Cup-winning squad, he watched their 1-0 victory over Argentina as an unused substitute. Despite the arrival of Rodri, Barcelona considers Gavi a central figure in coach Hansi Flick's plans. Flick played a key role in restoring Gavi’s confidence after a serious knee injury that sidelined him for five months last season.
Gavi Reflects on His Recovery
"I have suffered a lot, unfortunately, in these last two years. It’s football," Gavi said. "They were serious injuries and you have to be mentally strong, and I have been. It’s a strong point of mine. I’m at this level because of the mentality I have. It is not easy to play at this pace, coming from two serious injuries. I’ve done it and I’m proud. Luckily, the coach trusts me a lot. He’s like a father to me. I am very grateful to him. It’s not easy to get to play after this injury. He knows about my talent and mentality and that it’s important for the team. He blindly trusts me."
What Lies Ahead for Gavi and Manchester United?
Barcelona intends to begin contract renewal discussions soon, even though Gavi’s current deal extends until 2030. Meanwhile, Manchester United must quickly find other midfield candidates before the transfer deadline. Alongside midfield reinforcements, the club also aims to sign a new left-back to finish their summer business.
