Gattuso Ends Icardi Speculation: Club Stands by Current Forwards

Gennaro Gattuso has moved decisively to end the swirl of speculation linking his team with Mauro Icardi, insisting the club will stand by the attackers it has already brought in.

Facing the media before his side’s next league game, the coach cut straight to the point. The Icardi question, he made clear, is closed.

“Let's put this whole Icardi mess to rest,” Gattuso said, speaking via Calciomercato.com. “He has scored 250 goals in his career, and nobody questions his value. We made our choices; we signed [Andrea] Pinamonti and [Albert] Gudmundsson, and when you give your word to players, you can't go back on it.”

That line about promises was the heart of his message. The club, in his view, has already committed – both financially and morally – to its current forwards. Turning back now, even for a proven goalscorer like the former Inter captain, is not on the table.

“With all due respect to Icardi,” Gattuso added, “I've discussed it with the president and the director, and it's right to stick to what we have.”

Squad size a growing concern

The coach then lifted the lid on another problem: numbers. Not of goals, but of bodies on the training pitch.

“Right now, we already have players who have to sit out training because we have six full-backs,” he revealed. The situation is so congested that he cannot even work with the entire group at once.

And it is about to get tighter.

“When Marusic returns, two of them will have to be left out, and that doesn't look good.”

The message is clear. This is not a squad that needs another high-profile forward dropped into the mix. It is a group that needs balance, clarity and space to breathe – and Gattuso is staking his reputation on the players he has already chosen.
