Can anyone stop Galatasaray?
Okan Buruk’s side open the 2026-27 campaign at Rams Park against newly promoted Corum FK at 9.30 pm local time (1830GMT), carrying the weight of a looming milestone. They are already record champions with 26 titles. Now they are hunting an unprecedented fifth straight crown.
They start as the team to beat. Again. But this time, the pack behind them looks armed to the teeth.
Galatasaray’s crown under siege
Galatasaray wrapped up a fourth consecutive championship in May, tightening their grip on the league and reinforcing the sense of an era. The core of that winning machine remains, and Buruk’s team walk into the new season with the swagger of serial champions and the target that comes with it.
The setting for the first step is symbolic. Rams Park. A full house under the lights. A promoted side in Corum FK desperate to spoil the party and announce themselves on the biggest stage.
The story of the season, though, will not just be about Galatasaray’s dominance. It will be about how far the rest have gone to rip it apart.
Fenerbahce go all in
Fenerbahce, runners-up last season and still haunted by a title drought that stretches back to 2014, have thrown their weight behind ending the wait.
The Istanbul giants have gone big. Very big.
Romelu Lukaku arrived from Napoli this week, a marquee signing to spearhead their attack and a statement to everyone else. He joins a summer haul that already included English winger Mason Greenwood from Olympique Marseille and Dutch defender Nathan Ake from Manchester City.
That is not a rebuild. That is a declaration.
Fenerbahce begin away to Genclerbirligi in Ankara on Saturday night, a tricky opener for a side under immediate pressure to show that all this investment can translate into something Galatasaray have monopolised for a decade.
Besiktas sharpen their edge
Across the city, Besiktas have refused to stand still.
The Black Eagles have moved aggressively to add firepower, bringing in Serbia international Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus and Belgian winger Leandro Trossard from Arsenal. Two proven names. Two players expected to change games, not just fill shirts.
Their campaign starts at home on Sunday against Eyupspor, a fixture that should give an early glimpse of how quickly those new attacking pieces can click in front of an expectant Vodafone Park crowd.
If Galatasaray are the standard, Besiktas have made it clear they intend to chase them with goals.
Salah shakes up the balance
The most dramatic twist of the summer, though, came far from Istanbul.
Trabzonspor landed Egypt captain Mohamed Salah on a two-year deal, a move that sends a jolt through the league’s traditional power structure. The Black Sea club have long seen themselves as the fourth pillar alongside the Istanbul giants. With Salah, that belief suddenly looks a lot more tangible.
They open away to Kasimpasa on Saturday at 7 pm (1600GMT), a stage on which all eyes will be fixed on their new superstar. If he ignites quickly, the title race could stretch well beyond the Bosphorus.
New faces, new stories
Eighteen clubs will contest the 69th edition of Türkiye’s top flight, with three fresh arrivals altering the map of the league.
Erzurumspor, Amedspor and Corum FK have all climbed out of the lower tiers to take their place among the elite. For Amedspor, it is a historic moment: a first-ever season in the Super Lig. Erzurumspor return after a five-year absence, eager to prove they belong back at this level.
Amedspor’s debut comes with an immediate test of nerve on Sunday night against Erzurumspor FK at 9.30 pm (1830GMT), while Corum FK are thrown straight into the fire at Rams Park on opening night.
The season runs through to May 2027, leaving a long road for surprises, collapses and title swings. But the tone will be set quickly.
