Gabriel Martinelli Transfer Drama: Arsenal's Bold Moves
Galatasaray’s interest in Gabriel Martinelli was already a bold move. Within a day, the plot thickened. Arsenal have now reportedly been offered a far more complicated proposal: involve Victor Osimhen in a deal for the Brazilian. A straight chase for a new No 9 is one thing; a blockbuster swap is something else entirely.
Osimhen, one of Europe’s most coveted centre-forwards, would instantly reshape Arsenal’s attack. The idea being floated is simple enough on paper – Martinelli goes one way, Osimhen the other – but the noise around it does not stop there. Ethan Nwaneri, the teenage prodigy Arsenal rate so highly, has even been mentioned as a possible makeweight to turn it into a mega deal. Tempting? For a club chasing a ruthless finisher, it might be. Painful? Almost certainly.
Reijnders on the move?
Tijjani Reijnders faces a very different dilemma. Finding a clean, defined role under Enzo Maresca at Manchester City looks anything but straightforward. The Dutch midfielder has already been linked with Nottingham Forest, a move that has flicked a switch in Saudi Arabia.
Al Qadsiah, coached by Brendan Rodgers, are ready to test the waters. They are said to be willing to put £51m on the table for Reijnders, a hefty fee for a player still trying to nail down his ideal position in a possession-heavy system. If City cannot promise clarity, others clearly can offer cash.
Newcastle’s midfield rebuild
Up at Newcastle, the midfield has been ripped open. Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães have gone, snapped up by Spurs and Arsenal respectively. The upside? Around £175m banked. The downside? A glaring hole in the centre of the pitch.
The response is already in motion. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is high on the list as Newcastle look for a powerful, progressive option to anchor the next phase of their project. On the right side of defence, Rafik Belghali has emerged as another target. A £12m move could take the right-back to St James’ Park, where minutes are suddenly up for grabs.
Leeds circle Elvedi
Leeds are moving with purpose. Nico Elvedi is the man they want, and the Borussia Mönchengladbach centre-back knows Daniel Farke well from their time together in Germany. At 29, with only a year left on his contract and a clear desire to leave, the Switzerland international looks primed for a change.
All roads point towards Elland Road. With his deal running down, Gladbach are under pressure to cash in, and Leeds see an experienced defender who can step straight into a promotion push.
Forest’s quiet business
Not every signing is designed to light up social media. Nottingham Forest are closing in on Steven Benda, the former Swansea goalkeeper, on a free transfer. Third-choice keepers do not usually trigger airport mobs or shirt sales spikes, but they do matter across a long season.
Forest, who have churned through goalkeepers in recent campaigns, are looking for reliability and depth. Benda offers exactly that, even if the welcome party at East Midlands Airport might be limited to a few staff and a club car.
Palace build depth – and Zaha lingers
Crystal Palace are working on the edges of their squad, trying to add layers rather than headlines. Anan Khalaili is set to arrive from Union Saint-Gilloise, drafted in to push Daniel Muñoz at right-back and sharpen competition in a position that has quietly become crucial in Oliver Glasner’s system.
At centre-back, Palace are braced for a fight. Tiago Gabriel of Lecce, valued at £25m, has caught their eye. Bournemouth are watching him too, and Benfica have already tested Lecce’s resolve with a bid. A Premier League tug-of-war for a Serie A defender feels inevitable.
And then there is Wilfried Zaha.
Out of contract and out of work, the winger is back training at Palace to maintain his fitness. It is a familiar sight: Zaha in south London, gliding across the pitches at the club where he came through the ranks and returned once before after a frustrating spell at Manchester United. The question now hangs over Selhurst Park. With his boots back on and the doors open, is there room for one more Zaha comeback?
