What started as a debate over the Ballon d’Or briefly threatened to spill into something bigger inside the France camp. A few pointed sentences, a hint of wounded pride, and suddenly the spotlight swung from the award itself to the relationship between Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé.

He contacted Dembélé directly, clarified what he meant and moved to contain the situation before it could grow into a genuine problem around the national team. Le Parisien reported that the pair reached an amicable understanding, both determined not to let an individual award cast a shadow over France’s preparations.
Publicly, Mbappé then tried to douse the flames.
“I have already spoken to him about this matter, and there is no tension,” he said. “I don’t think there are any real problems concerning it. I am completely calm.”
Inside the camp, the message was the same: no rupture, no feud, no split.
Thuram the go-between
One name kept coming up in the background: Marcus Thuram.
The Inter forward played a quiet but important role in smoothing things over. He helped mediate between Mbappé and Dembélé through a WhatsApp group that included the three players, acting as a bridge while emotions were still being read and misread.

The pressure that had been building around a supposed “crisis” evaporated quickly. With the air cleared, the Ballon d’Or argument was parked.
