Ferran Torres Set to Join PSG: Barcelona Opens the Door
Ferran Torres is edging towards Paris with the kind of inevitability that usually only belongs to deadlines and tax bills. At this point, it’s no longer a question of if he will join Paris Saint-Germain, but when the signatures land on the contract.
An initial agreement between Barcelona and PSG is already in place for the Spain international. What started as standard negotiation has turned into a frantic back-and-forth in the last few hours: offers fired across, counter-offers pushed back, details argued over until both clubs finally found the formula to close the deal.
The clearest sign came from Barcelona’s own training ground.
Barca open the door
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona allowed Torres to skip training on Thursday morning – for the second consecutive day. He was due back with Hansi Flick’s squad on Wednesday, yet instead of lacing his boots on the pitch, the 26-year-old has been finalising his move to PSG, fully backed by a club that is negotiating his exit in parallel.
While Torres stayed away, life at the Ciutat Esportiva rolled on. Pau Cubarsi, Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal all reported for the start of Wednesday’s session, adding fresh quality to Flick’s group. Pedri Gonzalez, still being carefully managed, continued his work in the gym and never stepped onto the grass.
Around them, a cluster of young players trained in limbo. Marc Casado, Hector Fort, Jofre Torrents, Toni Fernandez and Gerard Martin remain outside the main group as they wait for clarity on their futures. For them, it is a delicate, drawn-out situation, with careers on pause while the club reshapes the squad.
Flick’s reshaped training ground
Flick still has a sizeable reserve contingent under his command. Goalkeeper Aron Yaakobishvili is one of them, though he is also close to a move of his own, with Almeria pushing to take him. Alongside him are centre-back Alvaro Cortes, right-back Xavi Espart, left-back Jordi Pesquer, midfielders Ibrahima Toncara, Aurin Gorin and Brian Farinas, and striker Hamza Abdelkarim.
They train, they wait, and they watch as one of the senior forwards prepares to walk out the door.
Barcelona’s decision to excuse Ferran Torres from training twice, just as talks with PSG reached a frantic peak, has effectively sealed his fate. The move now feels like the first major domino in a summer that could redraw the shape of Flick’s squad – and perhaps the pecking order of European attacking lines.
