Ferran Torres Joins PSG After World Cup Triumph
Ferran Torres, the forward who struck Spain’s World Cup-winning goal last month, has completed a move to European champions Paris St-Germain from Barcelona.
The 26-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the French champions running until 2031, with the fee understood to be around 50m euros (£42.7m). It is a statement signing, and PSG know it.
World Cup hero heads to Paris
Torres arrives in the French capital at the peak of his reputation. His extra-time winner against Argentina delivered Spain a second men’s World Cup title and turned him into the defining figure of the tournament’s climax. That moment only capped what was already a standout club season.
For Barcelona, he hit 21 goals in 49 games across all competitions, adding three assists and playing a central role in their La Liga title win. Those numbers, combined with his World Cup exploits, pushed his value to a level PSG were willing to meet.
Enrique reunion at a dominant PSG
At the Parc des Princes, Torres will be reunited with Luis Enrique, the coach who first trusted him on the international stage. Enrique handed him his Spain debut and now brings him into a PSG side that has become Europe’s benchmark.
PSG have lifted the Champions League trophy in each of the last two seasons, turning domestic dominance into continental authority. On Wednesday they added yet another piece of silverware, edging Aston Villa 2-1 to claim the Uefa Super Cup and underline their grip on the European game.
Into that environment steps Torres, expected to slot into an attack already being reshaped.
Building a new-look attack
He is PSG’s second major forward signing of the summer after Maghnes Akliouche’s arrival from Monaco. The French champions are clearly refreshing their front line, preparing for the next cycle while their rivals scramble to keep up.
Torres brings versatility across the forward line, Champions League experience and a proven record on the biggest international stage. Since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in 2022, he has grown into a more complete attacker, sharpening his movement and finishing in Spain’s top flight.
His international record only strengthens the picture. Torres has 25 goals in 65 appearances for Spain, a remarkable return at that level, and remains one of the most reliable scorers in Luis Enrique’s national-team era.
Barcola uncertainty lingers
There is, however, a potential twist to PSG’s attacking plans. Bradley Barcola could depart before the window closes, with Liverpool keen on the forward. Any move there would shift the dynamics of PSG’s front line again and place even more responsibility on their new arrivals.
For now, though, Paris have secured the World Cup match-winner who broke Argentina’s hearts. The champions of Europe have added another ruthless finisher to an already loaded squad.
