Ferran Torres, the man who shattered Argentina’s World Cup defence with an extra-time strike last month, has a new stage. Paris Saint-Germain have landed the Spain international from Barcelona in a deal reported at 50 million euros, a move that tightens their grip on attacking talent in Europe.
The 26-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract in Paris, committing to the Ligue 1 champions until 2031. PSG announced the transfer with a flourish, hailing the arrival of a “Spanish World Cup-winning forward” as they continue to reshape their squad around proven match-winners.
For Torres, the move is also a reunion. He links back up with Luis Enrique, the coach who first trusted him at international level, handing him his Spain debut in a Nations League clash with Germany in 2020. His crowning moment came in the World Cup final, where he came off the bench and scored in extra time to deny Argentina back-to-back titles.
Barcelona, in their parting statement, thanked Torres “for his commitment over the last four and a half seasons as a blaugrana” and wished him well for the next chapter of his career. The message closed the door on a successful, if sometimes scrutinised, stint, and opened another in Paris, where expectations will be no less fierce.
Transfer ripple: Liverpool watching Barcola
Torres’s arrival at PSG does more than strengthen Luis Enrique’s hand. It could also jolt the Premier League market into life.
Liverpool have been locked in talks with PSG over 23-year-old winger Bradley Barcola, one of France’s standout performers at the World Cup. The French club’s valuation, believed to be around 150 million euros, has so far blocked any agreement and tested the patience of the Anfield hierarchy.
Now, with another high-profile forward added to the Parisian ranks, Liverpool may sense an opening. If PSG decide they can afford to cash in on Barcola to balance the books or streamline their attacking options, the stalemate that has dragged on for weeks could finally break.
