Federico Gatti's Transfer Situation: Juventus Decision Pending

Federico Gatti’s summer has dragged on like a transfer window that refuses to shut, and he is still standing in the doorway.

Juventus have already turned down a late move from Porto, who tried to pounce before their market closed. The Champions League registration deadline, though, has come and gone for everyone, and that matters. Any club taking Gatti now would know he cannot be added to a UEFA list until the next window.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Juventus did not slam the door on the idea of letting him go. The real stumbling block lay in the numbers and the structure of the deal, not in the principle of a sale. Inside the dressing room hierarchy, the message has been even clearer: the arrival of Jhon Lucumi has pushed Gatti further down the pecking order.

He can see it. He is open to leaving.

The defender is now effectively on standby for markets that are still alive. That includes destinations far from the European spotlight. A move to the UAE is on the table, and for a player whose minutes have dried up, the promise of regular football could be persuasive.

One path has almost certainly closed. Al-Sadd, long in the hunt for a central defender, have finally found their man in Alessio Romagnoli. The Italian has already flown out for his medicals, sealing a pursuit that has stretched over a year. Lazio, for their part, planned ahead: they had already moved on by bringing in Danilho Doekhi and Josip Sutalo to cover the exits of both Romagnoli and Mario Gila.

So Gatti waits. Juventus weigh.

From the club’s perspective, he is not on the same level as their most trusted contributors at the back, yet his situation is not straightforward. Gleison Bremer’s injury history demands careful management, and depth in central defence is not something a contender can treat lightly.

There is also a tactical wrinkle. With a stronger full-back option in Zeki Celik than in previous seasons, Juventus could lean more often on Pierre Kalulu as a central defender if needed. That flexibility gives them some room to manoeuvre, but not unlimited margin for error.

Which is why any offer for Gatti now would have to be substantial, not just acceptable. Losing a defender without the possibility of signing a replacement in this window is a risk. The kind of risk that can define a season if Bremer breaks down or Lucumi takes time to settle.

Juventus know the numbers. Gatti knows the clock is still ticking somewhere. Who blinks first?
