Estevao's Patience Amid Chelsea Bench Struggles

Estevao blocks out frustration as Chelsea bench stint continues

Estevao cuts a calm figure on the surface, but the numbers tell their own story. Nineteen years old, one of Brazil’s brightest prospects, yet still waiting for his first Premier League start in a Chelsea shirt and limited to just 27 minutes off the bench this season.

Even so, Brazil have called him back.

While his club role stalls, his international stock clearly has not. The teenager will link up with the national team during the upcoming break, a reminder of how highly he is regarded back home, even as he fights for relevance at Stamford Bridge.

Asked about life under Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso, Estevao refused to bite or show any hint of frustration.

“Every coach has their own way of playing,” he said, keeping the focus firmly on his own work. “And of course, we work hard every day and give our best every single day. So that's what I do.”

Competition for attacking places at Chelsea is fierce, and Estevao knows it. He sees it every day in training.

“We have players of extreme quality at Chelsea,” he pointed out. “So what I do is focus on what I can, on what I can control. I try to give my best in training, and when I get the opportunity, I always give my best, and that goes day after day.”

He believes he has made the most of the limited chances that have come his way so far.

“In all the opportunities that I get, and that I've had, I think I've seized a lot of those, taken on a lot of those responsibilities,” he said, backing his own contribution despite the small sample size.

For now, the message is patience, faith and hard work. No complaints. No public demands.

“I try to control what I can, leave tomorrow in God's hands, and trust in my work,” Estevao concluded.

The minutes are not there yet. The conviction clearly is.
