Edmond Tapsoba Attracts Interest from Premier League Giants
Edmond Tapsoba has moved to the front of the queue for three Premier League heavyweights, with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all circling the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back this summer.
The 27-year-old Burkina Faso international has been under close surveillance from England in recent weeks, and the interest is no longer casual. TEAMtalk understands United have already opened talks with the defender’s camp, testing the waters over a possible move.
Tottenham and Newcastle are not standing back either. Both clubs are keeping regular contact as they weigh up defensive reinforcements and study whether they can match the demands of a deal.
Leverkusen, fresh from establishing themselves as a powerhouse in Germany, have drawn a hard line. The Bundesliga champions value Tapsoba at €50million (£42.8m / £58.4m) and are pointing to the long-term contract he signed earlier this year, which runs until 2031, as proof they are under no pressure to sell.
They would rather keep him. That much is clear. But the door is not locked. A proposal that hits their valuation could change the picture quickly.
Tapsoba is viewed inside Germany as one of the most complete centre-backs in the division: strong in duels, quick across the ground, comfortable stepping into midfield and starting attacks from deep. That blend of physicality and composure has made him an obvious fit for the speed and aggression of the Premier League, and English scouts have taken note.
Since arriving from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2020, he has become a fixture at the heart of Leverkusen’s defence, racking up 270 appearances in all competitions and contributing 13 goals. Those numbers, combined with his age and contract length, hand Leverkusen a powerful position at the negotiating table.
United are currently seen as the most advanced in their pursuit, having already made their move behind the scenes. Yet with Tottenham and Newcastle hovering and the price set high, any agreement promises to be complex rather than routine.
The transfer window still has time to run. Leverkusen hold the leverage, the Premier League clubs hold the desire, and Tapsoba sits right in the middle of one of the summer’s most intriguing defensive sagas.
