Driouech Transfer to Rangers Fails as PSV Faces Another Setback

Couhaib Driouech will not be pulling on a Rangers shirt after all. The winger is heading back to PSV after talks in Glasgow broke down this week, according to Eindhovens Dagblad reporter Rik Elfrink.

The 24-year-old had already travelled to Scotland to finalise the transfer. Everything pointed towards a done deal. Instead, PSV are now walking away from a potential fee of up to €8 million.

What exactly derailed the move remains unclear. No details have emerged from either camp, but the outcome is simple: Driouech returns to Eindhoven and Rangers look elsewhere.

For PSV, it is a familiar and frustrating pattern. This is the fourth transfer to collapse in just five months. Ricardo Pepi, Adamo Nagalo and Armando Obispo all saw proposed moves fall through before Driouech joined that list.

The setback does not automatically hand Driouech a fresh start in Eindhoven. Far from it. He has already missed the opening matches of the season through injury and, on current evidence, is not close to a prominent role.

Inside the squad hierarchy, he appears to have slipped behind academy product Amir Bouhamdi. The youngster is set to sign a new contract at the Philips Stadion, underlining the club’s belief in his potential and tightening the competition in wide areas.

So Driouech returns to PSV with his future clouded, his big move gone, and his path to minutes less clear than ever.

PSV, meanwhile, must quickly park the transfer turmoil. They travel to Excelsior on Saturday evening, kicking off at 20:00, still smarting from a 2-2 draw against Fortuna Sittard last weekend.
