Djed Spence's Future Shifts Towards Inter Milan
Djed Spence’s future is edging away from north London – and not towards Arsenal.
The Tottenham full-back is now firmly on Inter Milan’s radar, with the player understood to favour a move to San Siro as talks continue between the clubs. Inter and Spurs have been haggling over a fee for much of the summer, but the gap is starting to close.
Reports in Italy claim Inter are “closing in” on Spence, with a deal expected to land at around €30million (£25m) plus bonuses. That figure sits below the price Tottenham were initially said to be demanding for the Englishman, yet his desire to join the Serie A side appears to be softening Spurs’ stance.
Arsenal, briefly linked as a surprise contender, have never seriously moved. Mikel Arteta’s side have not pushed to strengthen in the wide defensive areas in this window, and any late bid from the Emirates would be exactly that – a shock.
One former coach made clear just how highly he rates Spence, even comparing him favourably to Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, another South London product. “Now he would be a player of interest. If it’d be Liverpool then I’d want big money for him. I would want a lot of money for him. They took the boy Joe Gomez, who was a South London boy, but Spence is a better player than him.”
For now, though, the market is speaking with one voice. Inter are at the front of the queue, Tottenham are willing to talk, and Spence wants the move.
Unless something dramatic shifts, any late twist is far more likely to come from Italy than from across north London.
