Diego Simeone Furious as Julian Alvarez Pushes for Barcelona Move

The relationship between Diego Simeone and Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid has reportedly reached a breaking point. The striker's persistent links to a summer transfer to Barcelona have left Simeone feeling deeply betrayed.

Breaking Point at the Metropolitano

The atmosphere at Atletico's stadium has turned tense, with reports claiming Simeone is furious with Alvarez. Despite a season where Simeone publicly defended the Argentine forward, the current transfer speculation has created serious friction within the club.

Phil Kitromilides, a La Liga commentator, told CBS Sports: "The dressing room is very, very disappointed with him. Diego Simeone can’t even look at him. Like, Diego Simeone is furious, absolutely furious with Julian Alvarez. And rightly so."

Betrayal After Support

Simeone’s anger stems from the strong support he gave Alvarez during difficult times, including a four-month goal drought last season. The manager consistently backed the former Manchester City player, seeing him as central to Atletico's future.

Kitromilides added: "This is his guy, someone he defended publicly, consistently, last season when Alvarez went nearly four months without scoring. He was never questioned by Simeone, constantly backed and supported 100 percent. This is their most important player, their franchise player. The whole project is built around Julian Alvarez."

Barcelona Interest and Atletico’s Stance

Alvarez missed training sessions recently, which fueled transfer rumors, though he returned to team activities on Sunday. Atletico Madrid remains firm despite the player's apparent desire to join Barcelona.

The Catalan club continues to show interest but understands the difficulty of sealing a deal this window. As a result, they are pursuing other options, reportedly moving closer to signing Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal instead.

Uncertain Future at Atletico

Even with the tension, Alvarez is expected to feature in Atletico’s next match. The club wants to restore normalcy and hopes he will focus on his role.

Club official Mateu Alemany said: "The plan is very clear. We hope he’ll be back in the team quickly and available for the next LaLiga match."
