Jacob Devaney Aims for Success at Hibernian After Loan Move

Jacob Devaney has barely unpacked his bags in Edinburgh, but the message from the Manchester United loanee is already loud and clear: he has come to Hibernian to win things.

The 19-year-old midfielder has joined Hibs on loan from Old Trafford, with the Easter Road club holding an option to make the move permanent. After a productive spell at St Mirren last season and an eye-catching pre-season with United, he has chosen to return to Scotland with a clear agenda.

"I'm really excited to be here," he told HibsTV. "I've been in training the past two days and I've really enjoyed it - the feel of the club and the training ground."

What pulled him back north was no mystery. The size of Hibernian, the taste of Scottish football he got last term, and the lure of European nights all combined to make the decision straightforward.

"The size of the club [was what attracted me]. Playing here last season played a big part in me coming here and European competition as well - hopefully we qualify on Thursday night.

"I know the expectation of Hibs, of the fans. I want to push for titles, whether that's the league or cups, and obviously getting to Europe as well."

This is not a youngster easing himself in. Devaney talks like someone intent on grabbing responsibility, not dodging it. Despite his age, he believes he can be a driving force in David Gray’s side.

"It was definitely the right decision for me to come up to Scotland," he said. "I suit the style of play and I see Hibs being the next step in my journey.

"I can dominate the ball and hopefully get us playing. I see myself as a bit of a leader so I'd like to think I can bring that side of my game to Hibs as well."

Hibs have secured a technically gifted midfielder with a point to prove and a pathway to a permanent deal already laid out. If Devaney backs up his words with performances, this won’t just be a stepping stone in his journey – it could be a defining chapter in Hibernian’s season.
