Deniz Gul Joins Galatasaray in €10m Transfer from Porto
Deniz Gul stepped off a private jet at Ataturk Airport on 1 September and straight into the glare of Galatasaray’s expectations. Flares, scarves, songs – the full Istanbul welcome. The Turkish international answered in kind, grabbing a megaphone and leading a classic Galatasaray chant before he had even passed through the doors.
By the end of the night, the move was done. Galatasaray confirmed to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that they had reached agreement with FC Porto on a €10 million transfer fee, with the Portuguese club also securing a 10% share of any future profit from a resale.
The 22-year-old striker has signed a five-year contract starting from the 2026-27 season, locking him into Istanbul through 2031. His deal includes a guaranteed net annual salary of €1.5 million, underlining how firmly the reigning Turkish champions see him as part of their long-term core.
“I’m very happy. I’m very excited,” Gul said after landing. “I want to meet the team and our fans as soon as possible. The important thing for me right now is to be here. I’m here now and I’m focused on this.”
From the runway he was whisked away for medical examinations, which he passed before finalising the paperwork that completes his move from Portugal.
A Stockholm upbringing, a Turkish decision
Gul’s story does not start in Istanbul. Born and raised in Stockholm to a Turkish father and Swedish mother, he grew up in the Swedish system and came through local youth academies before breaking through at Hammarby IF. His eye for goal there drew attention across Europe and, in August 2024, earned him a transfer to FC Porto on a contract running to 2029.
His international path was just as layered. Gul first represented Sweden at Under-19 level, but in November 2024 he chose to commit his senior future to Turkey. That decision was quickly rewarded: national team manager Vincenzo Montella called him up for UEFA Nations League fixtures in March 2025, handing him his first taste of senior international football in Turkish colours.
Now, less than two years later, he arrives in Istanbul as a full international, carrying both Scandinavian schooling and Portuguese experience into a league that demands physical edge and mental resilience.
Immediate impact expected
Galatasaray have not brought Gul in to wait. With his medical completed and all formalities signed off, he will join first-team training immediately under the club’s coaching staff. The plan is clear: integrate him quickly, sharpen his understanding with the existing attacking unit, and have him ready to contribute as the champions launch their title defence and European campaign.
His profile fills a specific need. At 22, he offers energy and mobility, but he also brings the physical presence and top-level European exposure that Galatasaray want at the heart of their forward line. In a long season, his arrival adds crucial depth to the rotation and gives the coaching staff another option to stretch defences and change the tempo of games.
