Danilo's Roadmap: Closing His Career at Flamengo

Danilo has his roadmap. And it ends where it all began.

Speaking at Ninho do Urubu, the veteran defender laid out his plan to close his career at Flamengo, revealing that talks over what would be his final contract are moving in the right direction and without drama.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said, explaining why discussions over his future had been pushed back. The calendar, and the demands of international football, left no room for long-term decisions.

Now, with the World Cup behind him and the pace finally slowing, the picture looks clearer.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

That is the target: a farewell season in red and black.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester City full-back underlined that negotiations with the club have flowed smoothly, with no stand-offs or sticking points on either side. The tone, he stressed, has been calm, aligned, almost natural for someone who wants to finish where his story started.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

No ultimatums. No public pressure. Just a shared will to script a final chapter.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening,” he added. “And hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

One more contract. One more year. And, if he gets his way, one last trophy lift in Flamengo colours to close the book.
