Como Squad Reshuffle: Morata Leaves, Ricci Joins, Van der Brempt Heads to Sassuolo

Como are tearing into the final days of the transfer window with purpose, trimming and rebuilding a squad that now has Champions League nights on the horizon.

Departures

The first major move is official. Alvaro Morata has left for Leganes, the Spanish club taking the striker on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. A short spell by the lake, and now a chance to relaunch back in Spain.

Ignace van der Brempt is next out of the door. Multiple Italian outlets, including Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, report that Como have agreed a deal with Sassuolo for the Belgian full-back. It’s structured as a loan with an obligation to buy, a total package worth €6.5m once all conditions are met.

Sassuolo had been circling other targets too. Rafik Belghali of Hellas Verona was on their list, but the winger now appears to be edging towards Torino instead, leaving Van der Brempt as their chosen reinforcement on the flank.

Arrivals

While Como cut numbers, they are not standing still. The club moved quickly to bring in midfield quality, with Samuele Ricci arriving from Milan to undergo his medical.

The deal is set up as a loan worth €1.5m, with an option to make the move permanent for a further €22m plus performance-related bonuses at the end of the season. It’s a significant outlay if triggered, but underlines how highly Ricci is still rated.

Milan certainly paid to get him. They invested €23m plus bonuses to sign Ricci from Torino last summer, yet he never fully imposed himself at San Siro. One goal in 34 appearances tells the story of a player used, but never fully central, in a crowded midfield.

Now he lands in Como with something to prove and a Champions League campaign ahead of him. For a club suddenly thinking on a European scale, these late-window moves are more than housekeeping — they’re the blueprint for how Como intend to compete.
