Colchester United Sign Moses Sesay on Loan
Colchester United have moved to sharpen their midfield by bringing in highly rated Southampton youngster Moses Sesay on a season-long loan.
The 19-year-old arrives with a strong academy pedigree. He joined Southampton from Chelsea’s youth set-up last year and has already featured for England at Under-18 level, marking him out as one of the more promising teenagers in his age group.
Sesay is still waiting for his league debut with the Saints, but he has had a taste of senior football, making a substitute appearance in last season’s EFL Cup. Colchester are now the club offering him a first extended run in the professional game.
U’s boss Danny Cowley is convinced the midfielder has the tools to lift the tempo in League Two.
“Moses is a very gifted player with the ball. He can really speed up the game,” Cowley told BBC Essex, underlining exactly why Colchester have pushed for the deal.
The Colchester manager also stressed that this is a step into the unknown for the teenager, but one he believes Sesay is ready to tackle.
“He’s been involved with England. It’s his first loan, so he’s going to need time to adapt, but he’s got some really good attributes. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
A first loan, a full season ahead, and a manager eager to mould him: Sesay now has the stage to show whether that academy promise can translate into hard, senior minutes in the EFL.
