Chelsea Reject Leeds' First Bid for Mudryk: Talks Continue

Chelsea have turned down an opening offer from Leeds United for Mykhailo Mudryk, but the move is far from dead.

The proposal, reported by BBC Sport, fell well short of Chelsea’s demands. The London club want stronger terms for a winger they bought for an initial £62 million in 2023, and they are prepared to hold their ground.

Leeds, though, are not walking away.

Mudryk wants Elland Road move

Mudryk is pushing for the switch. After spending 20 months out of the game following a positive test for the banned substance meldonium, he wants one thing above all: minutes. Regular football, a clean slate, and a stage to restart his career.

Elland Road appeals. Leeds have emerged as frontrunners because they are ready to take him on a straight loan with no option to buy. That detail is crucial. It lets Chelsea keep long‑term control of a player they still believe can come good, while giving Daniel Farke a high‑ceiling winger for this season’s Premier League fight.

If a deal is struck, Mudryk would be Leeds’ fifth signing of the summer. The Whites have already brought in Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic, James Trafford and Nico Elvedi, quietly rebuilding a core before they open their league campaign against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

An explosive wide player arriving on top of that? It would change the feel of their attack overnight.

Chelsea clear the decks for Alonso

At Stamford Bridge, the Mudryk talks sit inside a wider reset.

Chelsea are actively trimming Xabi Alonso’s squad before the deadline, moving out players who sit on the fringes of his plans. Axel Disasi has joined Crystal Palace, Benoit Badiashile is on his way to Napoli, and Atletico Madrid are finalising a £65m deal for Nicolas Jackson.

Others are waiting for clarity. Liam Delap and Dario Essugo both face uncertain futures as the club continues to reshape a bloated group into something closer to Alonso’s image.

Asked about Mudryk’s situation, Alonso kept his cards close to his chest: “We will see, we still have time to decide and we don't have to rush on many decisions and at the right time, we will take them. At the moment, not yet.” No guarantees, no public promises – just a reminder that Chelsea will move on their own timetable.

For now, Mudryk trains with the first team while his representatives work behind the scenes. Every session could be his last at Cobham before a loan, but nothing is agreed.

Leeds push, rivals circle

Leeds are not alone in the chase.

Chelsea have already rejected a loan approach from Brentford because the Bees wanted an option to buy, a condition the Blues are not ready to accept. Coventry City also remain interested as they prepare to face Arsenal in the season’s opening match on Friday night, keeping a watching brief in case the talks with Leeds stall.

Options abroad exist on paper, but they look distant. A move to Strasbourg or a switch to Serie A has been discussed, yet the 25‑year‑old prefers to stay in England. He wants to prove himself in the Premier League, not start again in another league with another style and another adaptation curve.

So the picture is clear: Leeds are pushing hardest, Chelsea are holding firm on structure, and Mudryk wants the move.

The pressure now shifts to the next offer. With the deadline looming and Farke desperate to sharpen his front line, the coming days will decide whether Elland Road becomes the stage for Mudryk’s restart or just another sliding‑doors moment in a career still waiting to ignite.
