Barcelona Completes Anthony Gordon Signing

Barcelona’s summer rebuild has clicked into another gear. Anthony Gordon is officially in.

The England winger, signed from Newcastle United in a deal worth €70 million plus add-ons, has now been registered in La Liga, clearing him to feature in Barcelona’s league opener against Elche on Sunday night at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero.

It is another key administrative hurdle cleared, and this time without the late-summer drama that has become a familiar subplot at the club.

Gordon in, Cancelo waiting

Gordon’s registration follows those of Rodri and Karim Adeyemi, meaning three of Barcelona’s new arrivals are now fully eligible to play competitive minutes this weekend. All three are on track to make their official debuts for the La Liga champions in Elche, giving the coaching staff fresh options across the pitch right from matchday one.

One piece of business still sits on the table. Joao Cancelo’s move was confirmed on Thursday, but his registration remains pending. Barcelona now face a race against the clock to have the Portuguese international cleared in time for Sunday’s game. If the paperwork lands in time, the champions will have completed a near-flawless week off the pitch.

A different kind of summer

This window carries a different tone for Barcelona. In recent years, the club spent August wrestling with financial fair play limits, pushing registrations to the brink and often beyond. This time, the process has been noticeably smoother.

Operating again under the 1:1 Fair Play rule has given the club room to manoeuvre. The result is visible: three signings already registered, no last-minute scramble, and a squad that looks far more settled heading into the first whistle of the new campaign.

Now the question moves from the offices to the pitch: with Gordon, Rodri and Adeyemi ready to go, how quickly can Barcelona’s new faces turn clean paperwork into decisive performances?
