Chelsea are prepared to cut ties with Delap just a year after bringing him to Stamford Bridge, setting a £50 million asking price as they trim down an overloaded squad ahead of the new season.

Alonso unconvinced in pre-season
Delap’s struggle has continued into pre-season, where he has failed to convince head coach Xabi Alonso that he should be central to Chelsea’s plans. That uncertainty has not gone unnoticed. Everton and Nottingham Forest are tracking the situation closely, weighing up whether to turn interest into formal bids as the window moves into its decisive phase.

Former Everton scout Bryan King has previously argued that the club could be the perfect platform for Delap, pointing to Romelu Lukaku’s career-defining loan spell on Merseyside as a model. Lukaku, King noted, “went on loan and really made his name up at Everton” – a path Delap could attempt to mirror, albeit this time via a permanent deal if Chelsea get their way.
