Chelsea Secures Ahanor Deal with Loan to Crystal Palace

Chelsea have sealed a deal for Italy international Ahanor – but Crystal Palace will see him first.

Standard Sport revealed last week that the Blues had reached an agreement for the 18-year-old defender, settled personal terms and cleared the way for him to fly to London for a medical. The long-term plan remains Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea have now chosen to park him across the capital.

Instead of going straight into Xabi Alonso’s squad, Ahanor will join Palace on loan from Atalanta, with his permanent move to Chelsea scheduled for summer 2027. It is a layered arrangement, shaped in part by Chelsea’s existing business with the Eagles.

Chelsea have already sent Axel Disasi to Selhurst Park on a season-long loan, a deal that includes no option or obligation to buy. Ahanor’s switch means Palace will now benefit from two Chelsea-linked defenders this season, one already on the books at Stamford Bridge and one earmarked for the future.

The teenager arrives with serious pedigree for his age. A product of the Genoa academy, he has already broken into the Italy senior side, winning two caps after making his debut earlier this year. He featured 28 times in Serie A for Atalanta last season and tasted the Champions League for the first time in September.

Chelsea's Midfield Plans

While the Ahanor plan stretches three years into the future, Chelsea’s midfield picture is far more immediate.

The club remain keen on Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara and are exploring a move for the 22-year-old. That interest grows louder as uncertainty swirls around Enzo Fernandez, who has now missed two consecutive Chelsea games amid strong attention from Manchester City.

Fernandez sat out the dramatic 4-3 win over Brighton at the weekend, with Alonso offering a pointed explanation.

"We assess what's best for the team and considering everything, the situation, we need a team that is focused, with everyone involved that's fully committed and engaged with the game," the Chelsea head coach said.

Ahanor’s future is mapped out. Fernandez’s, and by extension Chelsea’s midfield rebuild, is anything but.
