Camavinga's Future: Real Madrid's Midfielder Faces Elite Interest
Real Madrid’s midfield, for years the club’s safest department, is suddenly the stage for a looming shake-up. Jose Mourinho wants a new face at the heart of his team. To make room, someone important may have to go.
Right now, all eyes are on Eduardo Camavinga.
The 23-year-old arrived in Madrid as one of Europe’s brightest prospects, a bundle of energy and promise. Three seasons on, the feeling inside the club is different. Another campaign has gone by without the Frenchman truly taking command of a role or a position. He has filled gaps, covered full-back, offered depth. He has not become indispensable.
That is why, as the summer window opens, Camavinga has quietly moved towards the exit line.
United join the chase
Interest, though, has not faded with his form. Far from it.
PSG have been tracking the midfielder, tempted by the idea of bringing him back to France and building around a player who still carries clear upside. Now Manchester United have stepped into the frame as well, according to journalist Miguel Serrano.
United’s midfield is being ripped up and rebuilt. Casemiro has already gone. Manuel Ugarte is expected to follow. The club have looked at Aurelien Tchouameni, but know that prising him away from Madrid would be an expensive, complicated operation. So their gaze has shifted to the other Frenchman in white.
United have already made enquiries about Camavinga: his situation, his contract, the conditions for a deal. They are not alone. Juventus have also asked the same questions, sensing an opportunity in a market where true top-level midfielders are scarce and expensive.
Madrid name their price
Inside the Santiago Bernabeu, the stance is clear. Camavinga is valued, but he is not “untouchable”.
Real Madrid are open to offers and have set a price: €60 million. For a 23-year-old with Champions League experience and a high ceiling, it is a figure that will not scare off the likes of Manchester United, PSG or Juventus.
Yet the biggest obstacle to any move is not financial. It is Camavinga himself.
Despite a difficult season, one in which he even slipped behind Thiago Pitarch in Mourinho’s pecking order at one point, the French international has no intention of leaving. He has made it clear he wants to stay, fight for his place and claw back importance under Mourinho rather than walk away from the challenge.
A fluid situation with one obvious candidate
That leaves Madrid in a delicate position. Mourinho wants a new midfielder. To bring one in, the club will almost certainly have to move one out. If that plan takes shape, Camavinga is the most expendable of the current core.
He is not the leader that Tchouameni has become. He is not the veteran reference point. He is the asset with a strong market and a defined price.
For now, everything remains fluid. Madrid are weighing their options. The buying clubs are circling, waiting for the first real opening. Camavinga is digging his heels in, determined to prove he belongs in the next version of Mourinho’s Madrid.
At some point, something has to give: the club’s need to refresh, the player’s resolve to stay, or a bid too big – and too timely – for anyone to ignore.
