Bradley Barcola: PSG Winger at the Center of Transfer Interest

Bradley Barcola is lighting up a World Cup and sitting on a fault line in the transfer market.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger, fresh from scoring in France’s opening Group I win over Senegal, has become one of the most watched players in Europe this summer. At 23, with 13 goals and seven assists in 49 club appearances last season, he helped PSG defend both their Champions League crown and the Ligue 1 title. In Paris, they see him as a cornerstone of the future.

The problem for PSG? He is not acting like one.

Contract talks at a standstill

While Barcola makes his case on the biggest international stage, negotiations over a new deal at PSG have ground to a halt. Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, described the talks as “completely, completely on standby” and stressed that club and player “are not advancing on any deal”.

That single detail has electrified the market.

PSG still rate Barcola among the best in France and believe he can grow into a world-class forward. Yet he remains behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in Luis Enrique’s pecking order for the biggest games. For a player of his ambition, that matters. It opens a door. And two English heavyweights are already standing in the frame.

Liverpool and Arsenal move into position

Liverpool and Arsenal have both placed Barcola firmly on their lists. PSG, fully aware of the growing noise around their winger, have put a €100m (£86m) price on his head.

“Bradley Barcola is on Arsenal’s shortlist for sure, he’s one of the wingers appreciated, but Barcola is also on the list at Liverpool,” Romano said. “Liverpool keep a close eye on the situation of Barcola. They like the player, he was on the shortlist in 2025 and remains on the shortlist in 2026.”

The feeling around the deal, according to Romano, is that “it’s absolutely open at the moment”, with PSG’s stance likely to dictate how far and how fast things move.

In France, reports suggest Barcola is “thrilled” by the idea of a move to Anfield. That alone will sharpen Liverpool’s focus. But Arsenal are not watching from a distance. They are understood to be preparing an opening offer in the region of €80m (£69m), a clear signal that they are ready to test PSG’s resolve.

Liverpool’s Diomande dilemma

Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola does not exist in isolation. He has emerged as a live alternative to RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, the club’s primary wide target.

The Reds have already pushed hard for Diomande, tabling a €100m bid, only to be told that Leipzig want an eye-watering €148m (£128m). German reports have underlined just how difficult it will be to prise him away, and there is growing concern at Anfield that the move could collapse.

That is where Barcola comes in.

On the Born ‘N Red podcast, Romano laid out the picture: “Liverpool are maintaining contacts for Diomande AND for Barcola. It’s at completely different stages, because for Diomande they already sent an official bid, they are discussing with Leipzig, talking to the agents. With Barcola it’s an internal feeling I have.”

Inside Liverpool, that “feeling” is becoming a serious conversation. Romano added that the club discuss Barcola “every single week”, describing him as “a player they appreciate, a player they wanted already in summer 2025, but it wasn’t possible. So, they love Barcola!”

Rebuilding an attack, replacing a legend

Liverpool’s need in wide areas is obvious. They have already moved early to sign Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna for €40m (£34.5m), but the recruitment drive is not finished.

The club want another wide forward to reshape the front line. Someone to push Cody Gakpo. Someone, crucially, who can grow into the role of Mohamed Salah’s successor.

Barcola fits that brief. Young, already proven at Champions League level, dangerous in the final third and comfortable under pressure. A player who scores in World Cups and title races, not just in low-stakes fixtures.

Arsenal see the same profile. For Mikel Arteta’s side, Barcola would add another high-end option to an already fluid attack, a winger capable of stretching defences and offering a different angle to their existing wide players. Their willingness to move with an €80m proposal underlines how seriously they take this opportunity.

A World Cup shop window

For now, Barcola’s focus sits with France and the World Cup. His goal against Senegal only amplifies the noise around him. Every run, every finish, every decisive touch feeds into the narrative of a player on the cusp of a major move.

Behind the scenes, PSG and the player remain locked in a stand-off over a new contract. Liverpool and Arsenal hover, watching, calculating, waiting for the moment when admiration can turn into a concrete bid that sticks.

PSG have set their price. The Premier League giants have made their interest clear. Barcola is scoring on the world stage.

Something will have to give.
