Besiktas Targets Antony for Transfer

Besiktas are making an aggressive move in the transfer market – and their latest target is a familiar name in European football: Antony.

After missing out on Mohamed Salah, who chose Trabzonspor, the Istanbul giants have turned their attention to the former Manchester United winger, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik. The message from Besiktas is clear: they want a marquee signing on the right flank and they want it now.

From record sale to revival

Antony’s career has already swung between extremes. In 2022, he left Ajax for Manchester United in a deal worth at least €95 million, a record outgoing transfer for the Dutch club and one of the most scrutinised fees in Premier League history. Expectations were sky-high. His performances at Old Trafford were not.

After struggling to consistently deliver in England and spending time away on loan, the Brazilian made a permanent switch to Real Betis last year for €22 million – a dramatic drop in valuation and a fresh start in Spain.

It worked.

Last season in La Liga and cup competitions, Antony put together the kind of numbers that first attracted Europe’s elite: 14 goals and 10 assists across all competitions. The end product returned, the confidence followed, and his name is back on the radar of clubs across the continent.

Betis open to a deal – at the right price

Despite that resurgence, Real Betis are not closing the door on a sale. If a suitable offer lands on the table, the Seville club are prepared to listen. That stance has alerted not only Besiktas but several sides from Europe’s top five leagues, with Spanish reports indicating multiple clubs are tracking the 24-year-old’s situation closely.

Antony’s contract runs until mid-2030 and his current market value is estimated at around €40 million. Any deal will be expensive and complicated. Besiktas know it, but they are determined to probe every angle to see if a transfer is possible.

Besiktas’ big swing

For Besiktas, this is about more than just adding another winger. They want proven quality and European experience as they build for the new campaign. Landing a player of Antony’s profile would be a statement – a signal that they intend to challenge at the top and won’t be outmuscled in the market without a fight.

If the move happens, Antony would walk into direct competition for the right-wing role with his former Ajax team-mate Václav Cerny. Two left-footed attackers, both comfortable cutting inside, both with something to prove. For a coach, that is a luxury problem. For opponents, it is a headache.

Besiktas are ready to push hard before the window closes. They know they are not alone in this race, and that any hesitation could see Antony snapped up by a club in one of the traditional power leagues.

The next few days will be decisive. Real Betis’ resolve will be tested. Rival suitors will show their hand. And Besiktas fans will be watching, waiting to see whether their club can turn a bold pursuit into one of the standout signings of the summer.
