Bayern Munich in Race for Man Utd Prodigy JJ Gabriel

Bayern Munich have emerged as one of the leading contenders to sign Manchester United prodigy JJ Gabriel, with the 15-year-old understood to have told the club he wants out and is not expected to play for them again, according to reports in England.

The Sun and the Manchester Evening News both report that Gabriel’s camp has opened the door to two of Europe’s biggest hitters, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, as the youngster looks for a fresh start away from Old Trafford.

At the heart of the situation sits super-agent Ali Barat. Though players under 16 cannot be formally represented by an agent, Barat and his agency, Epic Sports, are already heavily involved in discussions and are viewed as favourites to take on Gabriel’s representation when regulations allow. Their role in bringing Bayern and Real Madrid to the table has put them at the centre of one of the most closely watched youth sagas in Europe.

Bayern have not exactly tried to hide their admiration. Sporting director Christoph Freund publicly praised Gabriel last week, stopping just short of fanning the transfer flames.

“I don't talk about players who are under contract with other clubs. We know the player because he's very talented. He's an exceptional talent. I can't say anything more about that,” Freund said at a press conference.

The message was clear enough. Bayern know who he is. They rate him. And they are in the conversation.

With Real Madrid also circling and Gabriel seemingly set on a move, Manchester United now face the very real prospect of losing one of their most highly regarded prospects before he has even had the chance to break into the first team.
