Basil Tuma Named in Malta's Provisional Squad

Aldershot Town winger Basil Tuma has been named in Malta’s provisional 29-man squad for their upcoming international fixtures, capping a rapid few months for the 21-year-old.

Tuma only arrived at the Recreation Ground in the summer, signing from Reading, but he has wasted no time making an impression. Eight appearances into his Aldershot career, he has helped drive the Shots up to eighth in the table on 15 points, his direct running and energy from wide areas already a key part of their early-season push.

His international story is just as striking.

Born in Uganda, Tuma first pulled on national colours for his home country at the 2020 CECAFA Under-17 Championship. Two years later, in September 2022, Malta came calling at youth level, drafting him into their Under-19 set-up as his eligibility and potential drew attention.

The senior breakthrough followed. Tuma made his Malta debut in October 2024, coming on at half-time and immediately changing the game’s rhythm, winning a penalty on his first outing. Since then he has added seven more caps, quickly becoming a regular presence in the squad.

Upcoming Fixtures

Now comes another test.

Malta face a demanding run of three UEFA Nations League games in the next two weeks. They open with an away trip to Andorra on 24 September, a fixture that will set the tone for the campaign. A home friendly against Liechtenstein on 27 September offers a brief change of pace, then the competitive intensity ramps up again.
