Barcelona Nears Sale of Ferran Torres to PSG
Barcelona are closing in on the sale of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain, with the French champions set to pay around €55 million for the striker in a deal expected to be completed this week.
It would mark the end of a turbulent, often divisive spell in Catalonia for a player who arrived from Manchester City in January 2022 and never quite escaped the debate that followed him.
From slow start to Flick’s finisher
Torres’ early months at Camp Nou were underwhelming. He struggled to pin down a fixed role across the front line, his goal contributions were modest, and the questions came quickly: was he a winger, a nine, or something in between? For a long time, Barcelona didn’t seem to have a clear answer.
That changed under Hansi Flick. Used as a full-time striker, Ferran finally found rhythm and purpose. Across the last two seasons, he hit 40 goals, shedding the tag of peripheral figure and turning into a reliable presence in front of goal. The same player who once looked lost between positions suddenly carried weight on the team sheet.
Even so, the split in opinion never really disappeared. Some saw a hard‑working, intelligent forward whose movement opened up space and whose finishing sharpened. Others saw a good player, not a great one, and a saleable asset in a squad still wrestling with financial reality.
A world champion’s exit?
The timing adds another layer. Torres scored Spain’s World Cup-winning goal in the summer and, at this moment, is the only senior striker in Barcelona’s squad. While the club push hard to land their dream target Julián Álvarez, they are preparing to let go of the one centre-forward they actually have.
That contradiction hangs over the deal. €55 million is significant money for a club that needs every euro, but it also removes a proven scorer just as he hits his stride and as Flick’s system starts to lean on him.
