Barcelona Set to Finalize New Signings Before La Liga Kick-off
Barcelona believe the paperwork will not get in the way of their new era.
The club are increasingly confident that every major summer signing will be registered in time for the 2026/27 La Liga opener against Elche on Sunday, avoiding the familiar scramble and anxiety of recent seasons.
Registration race starts now
According to SPORT, the registration process formally begins today, Thursday, giving Barcelona a crucial window to push all documentation through before Hansi Flick names his first competitive squad.
This time, they operate under La Liga’s 1:1 rule. That change means they can register new arrivals without the severe limitations that previously forced them into late-night negotiations and salary gymnastics just to make space.
It is still not as simple as sending a list of names to La Liga. Every registration must be backed by the correct sporting and financial documentation, signed off and aligned with the league’s controls. Barcelona want that work done with a margin, not with minutes to spare on the eve of kick-off.
The target is clear: Flick should have all his new first-team options available against Elche.
Rodri, Gordon, Adeyemi headline the new look
At the front of the queue stands Rodri. Signed from Manchester City on a deal running until 2030, he is viewed inside the club as the standout arrival of the summer and a central pillar of the project under Flick.
Anthony Gordon, the first operation completed in this window, is also expected to be registered in time, as is Karim Adeyemi, another key attacking reinforcement brought in to refresh the forward line.
Behind that headline trio, the club have also moved decisively on other pieces of their squad planning. Hamza Abdelkarim is included after Barcelona exercised their purchase option on him, while highly rated youngster Jesse Bisiwu will be registered with the reserve team but remain integrated in the wider first-team dynamic.
The intention is to start the season with a full, coherent group, not a patchwork squad waiting on league approval.
Cancelo and Christensen: the delicate files
One name still sits in the “complicated” column: Joao Cancelo.
The Portuguese full-back arrived later than the rest, leaving Barcelona with less time to finalise his registration. That delay makes his availability for the Elche match the least certain of the new faces.
Even so, the club remain optimistic. The expectation is that outgoing business and salary manoeuvres will create the necessary room to complete Cancelo’s registration without major drama, provided everything falls into place over the coming days.
Another file that needs attention is Andreas Christensen. His situation also has to be squared with La Liga’s requirements as Barcelona balance their squad and wage bill.
The clock is ticking, the opener is looming, and Barcelona know the stakes: Flick’s first official match will say plenty about his ideas. The real question now is whether the final signatures and approvals arrive in time for him to unleash the full version of his new team from day one.
