Ayyoub Bouaddi: Rising Star of Manchester City

Ayyoub Bouaddi has been handed a daunting label for someone still in his teens. Yet every step of his young career hints he might just live up to it.

He has already surged past 100 competitive senior appearances, a milestone many seasoned professionals never reach. The journey began at Lille, where he forced his way into the first-team picture and quickly drew attention beyond Ligue 1.

France spotted him early. Bouaddi pulled on the national shirt at every age group from U16 through to U21, climbing the youth ladder with the same composure he shows on the ball. Then came the decisive turn. He chose Morocco, pledging his international future to The Atlas Lions and stepping onto the 2026 World Cup stage with a rising reputation and a growing sense of inevitability about his next move.

By then, Europe’s heavyweights were circling. A big-money transfer felt less like speculation and more like a countdown. When the race finally broke, it was the Premier League champions who hit the accelerator. Manchester City moved, and they won it – securing one of the most coveted young midfielders in the game.

For now, Enzo Maresca is keeping him on a careful leash. Two appearances off the bench so far, short glimpses rather than starring roles. Yet nobody at City pretends this will be a slow-burn project. The expectation is clear: Bouaddi is being groomed to become one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The teenager himself sounds exactly like a player who knows where he wants to go and why he chose this particular route. Speaking to City’s official channels after completing his move to England, he did not hide his ambition.

“Manchester City are, for me, the best club in the world. It’s a dream to be here and be able to call myself a City player. I have spent most of my life working hard to become the best player I can be and reach the top of the game.

“I’ve watched City for many years, and I love their style of play. City always try and play quality football. And they have shown they are winners – this club feels like it’s built to win. The squad is world-class and Enzo is a top manager. And I’m really looking forward to playing at the Etihad Stadium, in front of all the fans.

“I have plenty of improving to do. I am only 18. I am happy with the progress I have made so far, but I also know I can improve so much. This is undoubtedly the best place for me to do that. This club demands trophies and I will give everything to make sure we are challenging for every title.”

Inside the club, the excitement is just as loud. Director of football Hugo Viana did not bother to play down expectations when he outlined why City pushed so hard.

“Ayyoub’s potential is extremely high - a player equipped with everything a top midfielder needs. At just 18, he already has outstanding football intelligence and that will only improve under the guidance of Enzo.

“We have watched him very, very closely and throughout that process we have become increasingly convinced he is a huge talent who will thrive at City. We are really happy he has joined us and our job now is to ensure we provide him with everything he needs to fulfil his potential.”

The stage, then, is set. An 18-year-old with over 100 senior games, a World Cup on his CV, and the trust of one of Europe’s most demanding clubs. If Bouaddi handles this as calmly as he has every other leap in his career, Manchester City may have just secured the heartbeat of their next great midfield.
