Aston Villa Signs PSG Starlet Mbaye for €55m
Aston Villa have beaten some of Europe’s biggest clubs to the signing of PSG winger Mbaye, agreeing a €55m fee with the French champions and pushing through the final paperwork on a blockbuster move.
The deal, reported by The Athletic, is now being tied up, with documents in progress after Villa matched Paris Saint-Germain’s valuation. All that remains is the formal completion of a transfer that underlines just how far Villa’s ambition now stretches.
Key relationships helped unlock the move. The strong connection between Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi played a decisive role in getting the agreement over the line, smoothing negotiations for one of the most coveted young attackers in Europe.
Liverpool were among the clubs tracking Mbaye closely this summer, and interest from other top sides had been building. Villa moved first. And hard. Unai Emery has been clear about the type of forward he wants, and Mbaye fits the blueprint: direct, fearless, and already accustomed to the demands of elite competition.
A rapid rise in Paris
Mbaye’s story at PSG has been one of acceleration. He arrived from FC Versailles 78 in the summer of 2018 and raced through the academy ranks, quickly marking himself out as a standout talent.
By August 2024, at just 16, he had made his senior debut. From there, he never looked back.
He went on to make 42 first-team appearances for PSG, scoring four goals and providing four assists. Last season alone brought three goals and two assists across 31 matches in all competitions, a steady return for a teenager operating in a star-studded squad.
He didn’t just make up the numbers, either. Mbaye became the youngest player ever to start a competitive fixture for PSG, a landmark that underlined the club’s faith in him. He started 10 Ligue 1 games and one Champions League match, proving he could handle the intensity and scrutiny of top-level European football before even turning 20.
Senegal’s rising star
On the international stage, Mbaye has already made a major call in his career. After representing France at youth level, he switched allegiance to Senegal and made his senior debut for the African champions in November 2025.
He has since collected 15 caps and played a meaningful role in Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, featuring in six matches during their run to the title. The trust placed in him on that stage spoke volumes.
The World Cup only amplified his reputation. Mbaye started three games at the 2026 tournament and scored against France on June 16, a goal loaded with narrative and a glimpse of the big-game temperament Villa believe they are buying.
Villa’s bold rebuild
All of this drops into the middle of a frantic and fearless transfer window at Villa Park. The club have already made eight signings, reshaping Emery’s squad with a clear eye on competing deep into Europe and staying in the Premier League’s top bracket.
Nicolas Jackson is expected to become their ninth arrival, adding even more firepower to an attack that is being rapidly retooled.
There has been a cost. Morgan Rogers has joined Chelsea in a £117m move, while Ollie Watkins has departed for Al Hilal, stripping away two major attacking outlets and fan favourites.
Mbaye now walks into that space: a teenager with Champions League minutes, an AFCON winner’s medal, and a World Cup goal on his record. Villa are betting big that he is not just one for the future, but a player ready to shape their present.
