Arsenal are circling around Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel, with the teenager pushing to walk away from Old Trafford and cancel his registration.

United were stunned when Gabriel, widely regarded as one of the standout prospects of his age group in England, informed the club he wanted out. The forward has already been trusted with senior exposure in pre-season and had been tipped to feature in the Carabao Cup clash with Brighton. That plan collapsed the moment his intentions over his future became clear.

Born in North London, Gabriel suddenly sits at the heart of a familiar tug of war. Arsenal have felt this from the other side. They lost Chido Obi Martin and Ayden Heaven to United in recent seasons, a double blow that stung Hale End. The response has been sharp. Gabriel would sit right at the top of that list.

Capable of operating through the middle or off the left, he fits neatly into a very specific gap in Mikel Arteta’s squad. With Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli gone, Arsenal’s left-wing options are suddenly thin. For a fearless teenager, the route to minutes is visible, not theoretical.
