Arsenal Signs Liverpool Academy Star Vincent Joseph

Arsenal have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals to land one of Liverpool’s most highly rated academy forwards, striking an agreement to sign teenage striker Vincent Joseph while also weighing up a blockbuster move for a new elite No 9.

Joseph, 16, has been a prolific presence in Liverpool’s youth ranks, operating primarily as a centre-forward but also comfortable in the No 10 role. Anfield observers have described him as “scoring freely” for years, and his numbers back that up.

Promoted briefly to Liverpool’s U18s last season, he responded with three goals in his first two appearances at that level. On the international stage, he has hit eight goals in nine games for England U16s and is also eligible to represent Germany.

Manchester United were linked with a surprise swoop in March, but it is Arsenal who have won the chase. According to The Athletic, Joseph allowed his schoolboy contract at Liverpool to run down and opted not to sign a scholarship with the club, opening the door for the Gunners to act.

Mikel Arteta’s side have reached an agreement with the youngster, with Arsenal and Liverpool now in talks over a compensation package. If the clubs cannot settle on a fee, the matter will go to a tribunal.

In that scenario, the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) would step in and weigh up several factors: Joseph’s age, his playing record, how long he spent at Liverpool, the stature of both clubs and the terms each side put on the table.

Those close to his development see serious upside. Joseph has even drawn comparisons to Jamal Musiala, underlining why Arsenal are prepared to navigate a tribunal process to get him into their system.

Big-game No 9 still on the agenda

While Arsenal move for future firepower, the search for a headline centre-forward for the here and now continues.

The club are keeping lines of communication open over Julian Alvarez as they explore options to compete with, and potentially complement, a signing such as Viktor Gyokeres. Arsenal remain in contact over Alvarez, but the Argentina international is understood to favour a move to Barcelona if he leaves his current club.

So the Gunners are widening the net.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal and Galatasaray recently discussed Victor Osimhen during talks that also involved Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri. Sources indicate Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all held internal conversations about a possible move for the Nigeria striker amid suggestions his valuation has dropped below the £100m mark.

United, though, have cooled their interest, leaving Arsenal and Spurs with a clearer run if they decide to commit. Any deal would still be huge. Osimhen is expected to command a major fee even with Galatasaray now more open to negotiating, and his wage demands to move to the Premier League would be substantial.

Arsenal, for now, are working both ends of the market: a 16-year-old compared to Musiala on one side, and on the other, the kind of marquee No 9 who can tilt a title race. They are also, according to reports, the club showing the strongest interest in a Barcelona star.

Youth, star power, and a manager who wants both. The question is not whether Arsenal will strike again in this window, but how big the next punch will be.
