Arsenal Secures Larne Teen Phoenix Blayney

Arsenal have won a three-way Premier League battle for highly rated Larne teenager Phoenix Blayney, underlining the club’s aggressive drive to stock their academy with elite young talent.

The 15-year-old impressed during a trial with the Gunners, catching the eye of coaches enough for the club to move decisively to bring him over from Northern Irish side Larne. Liverpool and Nottingham Forest both put contracts on the table and even hosted the youngster, with Blayney pictured at Anfield in Liverpool kit after a visit to their training facilities.

The pull of north London proved stronger.

His father, Alan Blayney, confirmed that Arsenal have secured the deal, with the teenager set to sign a pre-contract when he links up with the club this summer, before moving on to professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027.

“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” Alan told the Belfast Telegraph. “It’s done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”

Arsenal know this route well. The club have already gone down the same path with Marli Salmon and Max Dowman, both of whom agreed pre-contracts this season and will sign professional deals on their 17th birthdays. It is becoming a clear pattern: identify the standout talent early, secure the commitment, then build a pathway.

In the middle of competing Premier League offers, Arsenal stood out.

Blayney’s father described the Gunners as the “shining light between them all” when weighing up the proposals on the table. The teenager felt it too. “Phoenix enjoyed being at Arsenal, he felt a connection there and really likes the coaches,” Alan said.

There is also a familiar face waiting for him in north London. “One of his good friends Daniel McCarron has joined the club and that’s probably one of the reasons too. Him and Daniel play in the same Northern Ireland team,” his father added, highlighting the comfort of stepping into an environment that already feels partly like home.

For Arsenal, this is another piece in a wider strategy. The club have made no secret of their determination to recruit the best emerging talent at academy level, and internally Blayney is viewed as one of the standout prospects in his age group.

The chase is over. Now comes the real test: turning a coveted 15-year-old from Larne into the next success story of Arsenal’s academy production line.
