Arsenal Pursue Victor Osimhen Amid Galatasaray Talks

Arsenal are circling a new No.9 again, and this time the name on the table is as explosive as the ambition behind it: Victor Osimhen.

Mikel Arteta’s search for a centre-forward has never really gone away. Gabriel Jesus has slipped closer to the exit, Viktor Gyokeres flickered but never fully convinced as a 20-goal guarantee, and the club’s long flirtation with Julian Alvarez has hit a wall of resistance in Spain. So Arsenal have turned their gaze to Istanbul.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have held discussions over Osimhen during talks with Galatasaray that initially centred on Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri. The Nigerian, a relentless, penalty-box predator, has forced his way onto the Gunners’ radar after two devastating seasons in Turkey.

Osimhen has been central to Galatasaray’s back-to-back league titles, smashing 59 goals in 74 games. Those numbers explain why his name keeps coming up whenever Europe’s elite look for a striker who guarantees goals rather than just promises them.

This is not the first time the Premier League has been within reach for him. Two years ago, Chelsea pushed hard in advanced talks to sign Osimhen from Napoli. The move never happened. Instead, he joined Galatasaray on an initial loan, which the club then made permanent last summer for €75m (£64.8m).

Now, as Arsenal explore ways to reshape their attack, the 27-year-old has re-emerged as a genuine option.

Osimhen vs Alvarez: two targets, two very different paths

For months, Arsenal have been tempted by the idea of prising Alvarez away from Atletico Madrid. The logic is obvious: a mobile, technically sharp forward with a huge engine and a proven big-game temperament.

But Atletico have slammed the door. They have already rejected an approach from Real Madrid and turned down a €100m (£86.7m) offer from Barcelona. There is no sign they are softening. Every bid, every enquiry, gets the same answer.

That is where Osimhen starts to look like the more realistic – and perhaps more dangerous – option for Arsenal’s rivals.

Galatasaray’s position is very different. They are already deep in conversations with Arsenal, and their interest in Martinelli, in particular, could open the door to something bigger. The Turkish champions have submitted a €45m (£38.4m) bid for the Brazilian winger, although any deal faces a major obstacle: Martinelli is understood not to be especially keen on a move to the Turkish league.

The talks do not end there. Arsenal have also offered Nwaneri to Galatasaray for €40m (£34.1m), with a deal for the 19-year-old said to be progressing. The youngster impressed on loan at Marseille last season and is now being used as a key piece in this wider negotiation puzzle.

In the middle of all that, Osimhen’s name keeps coming back onto the table.

A second chance for Arsenal after saying no

Arsenal have already had one shot at signing Osimhen. Two years ago, he was offered to the club while still at Napoli. The hierarchy at the Emirates turned it down, wary that the Italian side would demand an enormous fee.

Since then, Osimhen has only strengthened his case. Across his club career, he has scored 173 goals in 297 games – numbers that put him in the bracket of forwards who don’t just fit systems, they define them.

Now the dynamic has changed. Galatasaray, not Napoli, hold his contract. Arsenal are actively reshaping their forward line. And Osimhen, this time, is open to the idea of moving to north London.

The report adds that the move comes as a “stunning” deal involving Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta bursts into life, underlining how aggressively the club are prepared to move in the market.

If Arsenal do pull this off, they won’t just be adding another striker. They’ll be dropping a 173-goal statement into a title race that already feels on a knife-edge.
