Arsenal's Late Hope for Julian Alvarez Amid Barcelona Dreams
Arsenal’s long-running pursuit of Julian Alvarez has flickered back into life on Deadline Day, with the Atletico Madrid forward now said to be warming to a move to London.
The Gunners have chased the Argentine all summer, driven by Mikel Arteta’s belief that Alvarez would be a dream addition to his attack. Their focus drifted earlier in August after a failed push for Vinicius Jr, but talks with Atletico quietly sparked back into action last week.

Fresh reports now suggest Arsenal have been working intensely in the background to keep the deal alive. TEAMtalk claim the club are trying to strip away as many obstacles as possible to make a move to London feel straightforward for the 26-year-old.
The key shift? Alvarez is now said to be open to relocating to London, even if Barcelona remains his preferred long-term destination.
His hesitation is not purely footballing. The forward’s extended family have been living with him in Madrid, and he is understood to want them with him in his next city. That brings its own complications: visas, schooling, housing, the entire off-pitch package that can make or break a transfer.
Arsenal, according to the reports, are fully aware of those demands and are prepared to help manage the logistics to ease the transition.
There is another intriguing twist. Arsenal are thought to be willing to include a so-called “Barcelona clause” in any agreement, a mechanism that could allow Alvarez to move to the Camp Nou in the future if the opportunity arises.
It would be an unusual compromise, but a potentially decisive one. Alvarez would gain a credible route to his dream club, while Arsenal would secure a high-level forward for the here and now.
