Arsenal Launch Talks with Galatasaray Over Victor Osimhen Transfer in Surprising Move
Arsenal have initiated negotiations with Galatasaray about a possible transfer for striker Victor Osimhen, signaling an unexpected turn in the summer transfer window. This development is part of broader talks involving several player movements between the two clubs.
Osimhen Emerges as New Target
In a surprising twist, Arsenal are pursuing the Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray last year from Napoli for €75 million (£64.8m). The 27-year-old’s arrival in the Premier League has been speculated for some time, and now the Gunners appear determined to make it happen after other transfer targets have proven difficult to secure.
The initial focus was on Julian Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid's refusal to sell pushed Arsenal to reconsider their options. Osimhen's name surfaced amid ongoing negotiations over players like Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.
Multiple Player Deals Underway
Discussions include a potential move by Galatasaray to sign Gabriel Martinelli, who faces a €45 million (£38.4m) bid, though the Brazilian winger reportedly hesitates about relocating to Turkey. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old Ethan Nwaneri is also part of the talks, with Arsenal offering him for around €40 million (£34.1m) as the Turkish club moves closer to finalizing that deal.
John Obi Mikel Backs Osimhen’s Move
"I think we want to see him in the Champions League so maybe Arsenal might be the destination. Maybe there is a door open there for Victor," said former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel. Mikel added that Osimhen aims to compete at Europe’s highest level and is eager to showcase his talent in a top league.
"He is working to make sure he ends up at a top European league where he can compete to win the Champions League," Mikel explained, referencing conversations he has had with the striker.
A Shift in Arsenal’s Approach
Arsenal's interest in Osimhen marks a change since 2024 when the club declined to pursue the player due to Napoli's high valuation. Now, manager Mikel Arteta seems keen on securing a reliable goal scorer to strengthen the squad. While Osimhen has thrived leading Galatasaray's attack, the lure of playing in the Premier League remains strong for him.
