Alisson Fined £8,000 for Incident After Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest
Alisson has been hit with an £8,000 fine for kicking the fourth official’s board near the Anfield tunnel after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.
The Liverpool goalkeeper lashed out at the electronic board – used to signal added time and substitutions – as he left the pitch at full-time on Saturday, footage later showing the incident in the tunnel area.
It came at the end of a deeply frustrating afternoon for the 33-year-old. He had conceded a penalty in the second half, racing from his line as Liam Delap took a quick throw-in to Neco Williams, who went down under the goalkeeper’s challenge. Morgan Gibbs-White converted from the spot to put Oliver Glasner’s side 2-1 up.
Days later, the sense of injustice only sharpened. On Wednesday, the Key Match Incidents panel released its findings and ruled that the penalty should not have been awarded.
Liverpool’s anger had already been simmering over the failure of the fourth official’s board during the game. At 1-1, the device malfunctioned while the hosts were trying to make substitutions. The ball went out of play three times, yet the changes still could not be made. Forest then earned their controversial spot-kick from the ensuing passage of play, with Delap’s quick thinking catching Liverpool out.
An FA spokesperson confirmed Alisson accepted a misconduct charge after it was alleged he “acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area”.
The fine draws a line under the flashpoint. The debate over the penalty – and the malfunctioning board – will linger far longer.
