Need for Defensive Reinforcements at Old Trafford
Despite a tough 2-0 loss to Hull City on the opening day, United’s summer transfer activity continues. The club is close to securing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba for around £70 million. Meanwhile, the focus has shifted towards fixing vulnerabilities at left-back following an error from veteran Luke Shaw that highlighted defensive issues.

Reports from Jijantes reveal that Balde has made up his mind to leave Barcelona. A product of La Masia, he played a key role in the club’s recent title win but doubts remain over his future under coach Hansi Flick.
Last season, the Spanish international started 21 league matches but missed 10 games due to hamstring and muscle injuries. The arrival of Joao Cancelo on a free transfer has added pressure on the left-back position. Consequently, Balde’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is actively working to facilitate a move, with early talks underway with Manchester United.
Flick Addresses Transfer Speculation
"He’s a player of immense quality, and it’s important to know if he’s confident he can compete in his position. That’s what I want to see from all my players. Every day I observe what they do, their level, whether they demonstrate that they’re at the level to play," said Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick before their match against Elche.
Flick stressed the importance of commitment and teamwork amid this period of change: "We have to play as a team; only then will we achieve success. I need everyone to be one hundred percent."

The situation at Barcelona remains unsettled as the transfer deadline looms. Flick did not rule out more departures, highlighting the significant changes happening within the club.
"We’re making a lot of changes within the club, so we may have to wait until the transfer window closes. That’s normal. When you decide to bring in new players, you also have to consider how to strengthen the team. The situation has been made very clear to the players, and now we must wait until the end of the market to see what happens."
