Spanish outlet Marca report that his agent, Jorge Mendes, has flown into Barcelona this week to take control of the situation. The super-agent met with the club’s sporting director before sitting down with Balde and Marc Casado, outlining the paths in front of both players. Casado’s exit has been expected for some time. Balde’s, until recently, felt far less certain.
That has changed quickly.
The clearest sign came with the squad list. Barcelona travelled to face Elche without Balde, a decision that cut through the noise and framed his future in stark terms. When a young Spain international full-back is suddenly left out at a time like this, it usually means the club is preparing for life without him.
On the player’s side, the options are real and serious. Three concrete offers are understood to be on the table, with Manchester United currently leading the race. The Premier League club are, by current indications, closest to securing his signature, while two other sides remain firmly in the hunt.
Balde has not yet made up his mind. He is weighing his choices, while Barcelona still need to move from conversations to formal negotiations with the interested clubs. His departure is not done, not yet, but the direction of travel is clear enough: if nothing dramatic changes, a move is expected in the coming days rather than weeks.
The chances of a U-turn feel slim. His omission against Elche speaks loudly, and the expectation that Joao Cancelo will take over as first-choice left-back only adds to the sense that the club are ready to move on. If Cancelo is locked in on that flank, the pathway for Balde narrows sharply.
If the transfer does go through, Barcelona will have to react fast. The back line is already a long-running concern for the sporting department, and losing a starting-calibre full-back this late in the window forces a decision. Do they go out and sign a new left-back? Or do they use the opening to reinforce at centre-back, a position that has been high on the agenda for some time?
