Top 35 Men's International Football Goalscorers of All Time

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi currently hold the top two positions as the highest international goalscorers in men’s football history.

35th to 21st on the List

The lower section of the list features some well-known names from recent football eras. At 35th is Kuwait's Jasem Al-Huwaidi with 63 goals. Close behind are Serbia's Aleksandar Mitrovic and Thailand's Teerasil Dangda, each with 64 goals. Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba sits just below Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, who has scored 69 times for his country.

Former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane ranks just inside the top 30, scoring 68 goals for Ireland. He shares that tally with Guatemala's Carlos Ruiz and German great Gerd Muller. They trail slightly behind Egyptian Hossam Hassan and Uruguayan star Luis Suarez, both with 69 goals. Three more players, Stern John, Piyapong Pue-on, and Abdul Kadir, are tied at 70 goals each.

Positions 23 to 21 all share the same total of 71 goals. Germany’s Miroslav Klose, the World Cup’s all-time top scorer with 16 goals across four tournaments, is level with Thai forward Kiatisuk Senamuang and Malawi’s Kinnah Phiri.

20th to 11th Places

Moving up the rankings, this group includes several less widely known players alongside some famous names. Kinnah Phiri managed his 71 goals in fewer matches than Klose and Senamuang. Ahead is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s record scorer Edin Dzeko with 73 goals, narrowly surpassing Saudi Arabia’s Majed Abdullah, who scored 72 times.

The trio of Bashar Abdullah (Kuwait), Kunishige Kamamoto (Japan), and Sandor Kocsis (Hungary) each have 75 international goals. Legendary Brazilian Pele netted 77 goals in his career, just behind Iraq’s Hussein Saeed Mohammed. This section closes with Godfrey Chitalu from Zambia and Brazil’s Neymar, both holding 79 goals.

Top 10 All-Time Scorers

The elite top 10 begins with England’s top scorer Harry Kane on 79 goals. Just ahead is Hungarian hero Ferenc Puskas with 84 goals. Poland’s Robert Lewandowski recently moved above United Arab Emirates' Ali Mabkhout, recording 88 goals compared to Mabkhout’s 85.

Belgium's Romelu Lukaku holds fifth place with 90 goals. Malaysian legend Mokhtar Dahari follows closely with 89 goals. India’s Sunil Chhetri and Iran’s Ali Daei come next with 95 and 108 goals respectively. Daei once led the international scoring charts before being overtaken by the two greatest of all time.

Lionel Messi raised his tally to 116 goals for Argentina after scoring twice against Venezuela in a 3-0 victory, securing his second-place spot. But he still trails behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who remains the top international goalscorer with 143 goals for Portugal. Despite not scoring during Euro 2024, Ronaldo continues adding to his tally, chasing the extraordinary milestone of 1,000 career goals.
