Premier League Returns October 10 After Extended September-October International Break

The 2026/27 Premier League season started with plenty of drama and excitement, but fans will face a pause as the league takes a break for international fixtures. The action will resume on Saturday, October 10, after a longer-than-usual international hiatus.

Current Season Overview

Several Premier League heavyweights such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have stumbled in the early stages, failing to meet expectations in the first five matches. Even defending champions Arsenal experienced a setback just before this break, leaving Manchester City as the only team unbeaten through five games.

Why the Extended Break?

The usual international breaks for September and October have been combined this year due to the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup. With the tournament growing to 48 teams and lasting six weeks during summer, FIFA allowed players more time to recover and settle back into club football by merging the two international breaks into one longer period. National teams will use this time to play four matches across two weeks and spend more time with their squads.

Looking Ahead: Next International Break

Following this combined September-October break, the next international window will occur in November 2026. From November 9 to November 17, national teams worldwide will regroup for up to two matches, returning to the standard format of international breaks.
