Premier League Managers Facing Possible Sackings During International Break
The season’s first international break arrives with players scattered worldwide, representing their national teams. Premier League matches won’t resume until October 10th, but some managers may not get a chance to relax during this pause.
Here are a few Premier League managers whose positions could be under threat before the league restarts next month.
Roberto De Zerbi - Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham sit at the bottom of the Premier League after losing three and drawing two of their first five games. Expectations were high after the club spent over £300 million on new signings like Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Savio, and Jan Paul van Hecke. Despite the poor start, De Zerbi’s job might be safe for now due to the hefty cost of terminating the five-year contract he signed in April.
Michael Carrick - Manchester United
After stepping in as interim head coach in January, Michael Carrick brought noticeable improvement. But since becoming the permanent manager, results have taken a nosedive. United sit in the league’s bottom half with just five points from five games, including losses to Hull City and Manchester City. The club’s leadership still supports Carrick, but continued poor performances may force a tough call.
Alvaro Arbeloa - Fulham
Fulham started the season with three straight defeats but have steadied somewhat by drawing against Liverpool and Manchester United. Arbeloa brought several Castilla players into the squad during the summer transfer window, which reportedly hasn’t been well received in the dressing room. Rumors of unrest suggest that more poor results could seal Arbeloa’s fate.
Frank Lampard - Coventry City
Lampard achieved promotion by leading Coventry City to the Championship title, ending a 25-year absence from the Premier League. However, returning to the top flight has proven tough. Despite a win against Nottingham Forest, Coventry sits in the relegation zone after losing four of their first five matches. Although Lampard enjoys strong fan support, ongoing struggles could quickly change that.
